Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of Zimbabwe’s largest opposition alliance has called on Robert Mugabe, to voluntarily step aside as the country entered days of military takeover. However, despite growing calls for his resignation, Mugabe is reportedly refusing to step down immediately. Sources suggest that Mugabe is
“buying time” to negotiate his exit.On Friday, the military said they were “engaging” with Mugabe as they took control after he sacked Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, indicating that he favored his wife Grace to run for presidency. Many Zimbabweans were relieved by the military’s move to take power of the country, and confine President Mugabe as they all longed for a transitional government. Defense Forces of Zimbabwe commented that progress has been made as they were successful in weeding out criminals around Mugabe and bring them to justice.
