Former Deputy Speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui passed away

    Former Deputy Speaker and BNP leader Md Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui died at the age of 71 at United Hospital in the capital at 12:15pm yesterday, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed media. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and former speaker barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar mourned the death. Siddiqui’s corpse has been kept in BIRDEM hospital after the first funeral prayer held in front of BNP headquarters in Nayapaltan. His body would be taken to his ancestral home in Naogan after the second funeral prayer at the south plaza of the parliament in the morning today. Later he would be buried in their family graveyard after funeral rituals are performed there.
