A revenue officer of the customs department accidentally got shot while checking a sidearm of a protocol officer of a European Union representative at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka yesterday. A bullet suddenly hit at the right foot of Robiul Islam when he was performing a security inspection of Sunquest one of the three protocol officers came along with EU representative Federica Mogherini upon landing at the airport. The accident took place when the protocol officer himself was showing the pistol to the custom officials. The incident took place when security was checking the pistol of protocol officer of EU’s representative for foreign affairs Federica Mogherini at Dhaka airportSaidul Islam, Assistant commissioner of Dhaka customs, and Tariq Ahmed, Assistant superintendent of police of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) confirmed the incident to the media.Later, the injured officer was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital.The pistol was seized following the incident.The EU representative’s Protocol officer was released after taking a confessional statement from him. Home and Foreign ministries, EU embassy were informed about the incident.
