9 more killed early Monday as ‘gunfights’ continue

    Sofian Khan: As reported ‘gunfights’ between the law enforcers and criminal groups increase, nine more were killed during the wee hours yesterday. The victims of gunfights are suspected drug dealers.  Separate ‘gunfights’ took place with the law enforcers in Rajshahi, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Tangail, Narsingdi, Jashore, and Gazipur districts. Since May 12, A total of 29 people were killed in the latest ‘gunfights’ across the country.
    According to the the home minister, the government would show zero tolerance policy toward the drug traffickers. Officer-in-charge of Jibannagar police station, Mahmud Hossain, when a police patrol team reached in an area adjacent to a field, a gang of drug dealers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.
    At one stage, when the ‘gang members’ fled the scene leaving Sub-inspector Milon, two constables Walid Rahman and Jewel Hossain. The police team recovered the body of Jonab from the spot.Another listed drug dealer in Rajshahi, Liakat Ali Mandal (40), was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion in Khurdo Jamira area under Belpukur thana of the city around 12:30 am.The law enforcement’s version of these events, however, was not able to be verified as no version of the incident was available immediately either from any witnesses or from any members of the victim’s family.
