Tahmeed Taha: A decision has been made by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to form an OIC ministerial committee. The committee will focus on accountability for crimes against the Rohingya. Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said, “We are working with Gambia and any other countries can join us. We will come up with a proper formula for establishment of this kind of committee and this will be circulated by OIC secretariat later on,” reports The Daily Star.
At a special session on “humanitarian challenges of the OIC countries, including those relating to the Rohingya,” the proposal was placed on the second day of OIC-CFM meeting yesterday morning. Abubacarr Tambadou, Gambian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, said in his proposal that the ministerial committee’s task would be to collaborate with other international actors, including the UN, International Criminal Court and NGOs to sustain international political pressure for accountability efforts. He told the session that it will assist in information gathering, evidence collection for accountability purposes and also act as OIC focal point.
