Release dead body even if bills due: HC to hospitals

    The High Court on Monday has directed the hospitals and clinic to release dead body of poor and destitute people even if the family failed to pay treatments and hospital costs and create a fund to help poor and marginalized people. The high court bench of justice comprising Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan made the ruling after hearing a writ petition filed by Advocate Manzill Murshid on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh based on several media reports that said Mohammadpur City Hospital didn’t hand over a child’s dead body to his parents since they couldn’t pay the hospital bills on in June, 2012.The Hiigh Court also ordered the health secretary and director general of the Department of the Health Service to issue a circular containing these directives for all the hospitals, reports Banglanews24. the High Court also fined the City Hospital authorities Tk 5,000 and directed to give the amount to the Anzuman Mofidul Islam.
