Gold worth 3 crores taka found in blanket at Shahjalal airport

    Customs recovered 58 gold bars worth 3 crores taka hidden in a blanket from the luggage of a migrant worker who arrived at Shahajal International airport from Bahrain yesterday morning. Assistant commissioner of Dhaka Customs House and chief of the preventive team, Saidul Islam told media that his team on information interrogated Md Alam after he landed at the airport in a flight of Gulf Air at 9am. Initially he denied having any gold with him. After scanning his luggage in the green channel, 58 gold bars packed by yellow scotch tape weighing 6kgs 700 grams were found in a blanket. Each bar weighs 116 grams. The market price of the seized gold bars is worth approximately Tk3,35,00,000. The arrestee, Alam from Comilla, migrated to Bahrain as construction worker. He claimed to the customs official that a friend of him called Haider gave him the blanket. A case has been filed against Alam by Airport police.
