Awami League Government has taken a huge initiation in rejuvenating the rivers & creating 53 water-routes in order to reduce the dependency on roads. As part of this, capital dredging project for 50km water-ways from Daudkandi-Homna-Ramkrishnapur has been initiated. Now, BIWTA also announced that, a modern naval port will be established at Daudkandi, Comilla. This is a promising initiation to increase the government revenue & create many jobs, said Minister of Shipping Shajahan Khan.
So far, 14 dredgers were bought from 2009-13. 20 more will be bought from 2014-19. 50 others were collected from private sectors. Government promises to create 53 water routes.1380km water-ways already have been dug. This has also accelerated the progress of evacuating illegal establishments from the riversides.
