Bangladesh is receiving Geological Identification for Ilish after Jamdani saree. Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT) have applied for this global certification in 13 November 2016. DPDT Registrar Sanowar Hossen claims that, they have completed all the paperwork & will be receiving the certification this month.
Bangladesh followed all the regulations set by World Intellectual Property Organization and sent evidence reports via DPDT journal in 1 June. DPDT was waiting for 2 months for everyone’s acknowledgment as required by the system, said Sanwar Hossen. So far, neighboring countries, India & Myanmar have not raised any objection regarding this matter.
DPDT believes Bangladeshi Ilish will be even more favored & will get 20-25% more price value after the GI certification.
