After taking oath as home minister for the second consecutive term yesterday, Asaduzzaman Khan reiterated his stance of taking a zero tolerance policy to free the country from the menace of militancy and illegal drugs.
“My responsibilities have been increased by manifolds as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina keeps her trust on me for the second terms and I will try my best to honor her faith in me,” he told.
Describing the  second assignment as a big challenge, he said, “I will definitely give my best possible efforts to root out militancy and stop abuse of drugs from the country in line with the government’s ‘zero tolerance policy’ against the menace.”
The minister also expressed firm determination to make law-enforcement agencies, particularly the police, as friends of the people aimed at ensuring participation of commoners in maintaining law and order.
He expressed his optimism that Bangladesh would become a middle-income country by 2021 with materializing the vision 2021, but warned that the BNP-Jammat regime militancy activities were being patronized and had set up its network in the country.
“We have become role model for the rest of the world in curbing militancy and terrorism due to successful drives against the menace by the law enforcement agencies.”
