Nasrul Hamid, who was made state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources again, will unveil a five-year future plan for the sector today.
According to official sources, Nasrul Hamid, who took oath as state stare minister yesterday at Bangabhaban, will present the plan at the Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka, reports UNB.
Nasrul Hamid served the ministry for the last five years as state minister in the 10th parliament. During his tenure, the country’s installed power generation capacity reached a benchmark of 18,000 MW, with its production capacity exceeding the 20,000MW mark in September last.
As per the power sector master plan-2016, Bangladesh needs $9 billion investment every year until 2041.
The government has set a target to increase power generation to 60,000 megawatt (MW) by 2041, 40,000 MW by 2030 and 24,000 MW by 2021.
In total, $150 billion of investment would be needed until 2041, meaning there are ample financing opportunities for China in Bangladesh’s power sector.
