India Losing Influence over Nepal & Maldives

    Masum Billah

Primary parliamentary election result of Nepal shows that, the leftist alliance of two-communist parties might form the government this time. These parties had always favored China. Now, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen is going to China for a 4-days’ visit. All the signs are indicating that, India is gradually losing its grasp of influence around its continent, and the respect from these countries as well for actions from recent years. Experts are blaming that, Narendra Modi’s forceful-diplomacy strategy has led to this. Indian government do not have the right to make Nepal a secular country. Also, India cannot punish Nepal for choosing their own ways. Such as, announcing 2-months long economic boycott on Nepal, two years ago. Also, China helped Nepal more than India, during the devastating earthquake in 2015. India also made a wrong move, supporting the losing the side during the last election in Maldives. Whereas China welcomed winning candidate Abdulla Yameen with red carpet. Both Presidents of Maldives & China has officially stated that, both of their countries are very close & important to each other. -Translated by: Eshan Maitra
