TI corruption report ‘unacceptable’ if causes not stated as well: ACC Chairman

    Arafat Hasan of DOT
Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Iqbal Mahmud commented on Transparency International’s latest report on graft, saying that is unacceptable unless the causes of rising corruption in Bangladesh is not addressed, according to a Daily Star report on Tuesday.

“I’m yet to receive the report,” said Mahmud, adding, “But it will not be acceptable if Transparency International fails to mention its methodology and causes of rising corruption in the report.”

The ACC chairman expressed his point-of-view while replying to a query regarding Bangladesh’s position in Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 revealed by Transparency International.

The report states that Bangladesh has went down six places in the world corruption index, ranking 149 compared to where she stood in 2017, losing two points. The position is 13th from bottom.

“I always welcome such report. We will fix our course of action if the organization (TI) mentions the sectors in which graft has raised,” said Mahmud.
