AAMS Arefin Siddique speaks to DOT :
During a recent visit at several Chittagong schools, the Anti-Corruption Commission chief has found most of the teachers absent. Though the scenario does not represent the entire country, it is not another separate happening.
I think this kind of incident will be found in parts of Bangladesh. When we talk of quality education, the picture of teachers’ negligence surfaces. They are being told repeatedly to be more professional since they are the back bone of education while the latter is the same to the nation.
If teachers fail to impart knowledge properly and give enough time to their students, how would they improve the standard of education? So, they need to be loving to their job and give time to students even after class hours.
These are the obligations that teachers are supposed to do institutionally and we hope them to do so with honesty.
It is not possible for the ACC to inspect all schools across the country. In that case, the administration has to expedite its activities to ensure proper education. Thana and district education offices are the key players to this end.
These issues are mentioned in the management system of the education department. It needs to be verified whether teachers are joining at work and doing their job properly. The officials concerned too need to be more aware to ensure students are getting the minimum standard of education at schools. Community monitoring is also greatly help in this regard.
