A key-economic policy member of the government has said that time has come to open the scope of foreign direct investment (FDI) for local businesses abroad. “We should open our economy. Time has come to open the scope of investing abroad by our local businesses,” said Dr Shamsul Alam, member of General Economic Division (GED) of Planning Ministry, at a workshop organized by South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) at a hotel in the city on Saturday.
He also underscored the need for providing export subsidy to all of the exporting sectors.
“It is also necessary to think of providing subsidy or stimulation to all exporters. What is the problem for others if readymade garment exporters enjoy subsidy?,” he added.
Dr Alam said health and education sectors deserve more investment for human resource development leading to economic stability and sustainability.
