Afsan Chowdhury speaks to DOT :
Amanullah Kabir was a non-partisan journalist. It is a huge achievement for him. His journalistic career spanned four decades and remained active with all political movements. He was a left leaning person but he was never dogmatic. He was associated with Mawlana Bhasani. Later on, he waged movement for protecting the rights of the journalists. He worked in both Bangla and English languages. I got acquainted with him during a movement. I found him to be my colleague when I entered into journalism. We worked together at bdnews24.com. He was a very sociable and admirable person. He spoke his mind boldly at different TV talk shows. Person like him is not found nowadays. People are now either pro-BNP or pro-AL. The idea of keeping a third existence beyond the two political streams is not found in the society. There is no free man in the country. All people of our society are biased. However, Amanullah Kabir was free from any such bias. He never indulged in sycophancy and dishonesty. He is a bright example in our journalistic profession. I pay homage to this great personality. Amanullah Kabir passed away at a hospital in Dhaka yesterday at the age of 72.
Kabir was working as a senior editor of online news portal bdnews24.com.
He served as the executive editor of the Independent, news editor of The Daily Star, editor of Bangla Daily Amar Desh, and chief editor and managing director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
He was born in Jamalpur district on January 24, 1947.
