Ex-BCL leader declared persona non-grata on campus

    DOT Desk: Jashore district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League former general secretary Anwar Hossain Bipul filed two defamation cases on charge of dishonouring the founder president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the former leader BCL (Bipul) against Jashore University of Science and Technology professor vice-chancellor Anwar Hossain, Teachers’ Association president professor Iqbal Kabir Zahid and general secretary Nazmul Hasan, reports The New Age.
    Meanwhile, teachers of the university continued their strike for the third consecutive day on Monday protesting at the attack by ruling Awami League’s student body Bangladesh Chhatra League on a human chain of the teachers on the campus.
    The human chain was formed in protest of hurling abusive words on the JUST Teachers’ Association president Professor Iqbak Kabir Zahid by a former BCL leader, the association members said.
    The defamation cases for Tk 510 crore were filed with additional chief judicial magistrate, Jashore, Muhammad Akram Hossain on Monday, former BCL local leader Anwar told journalists at a press conference held at Jashore Press Cub.
    In one case, the ex-BCL leader sued JUST VC professor Anwar Hossain, and Teachers’ Association president Iqbal Kabir claiming a damages of Tk 500 crore for dishonouring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prime minister Sheikh Hasina in two desk calendars published by the university.
    Tk 10 crore defamation case was filed with the same Jashore court for dishonouring the former BCL leader Anwar Hossain Bipul by the teachers association president and general secretary for using defamatory words against him and filing a general diary against the leader.
    The VC sat with the teachers and declared the former Jashore district unit BCL general secretary Anwar Hossain Bipul as persona non grata. The meeting also asked the teachers to go back to their duties, according to a statement sent by the JUST public relations department.
    Iqbal Kabir Zahid, however, told New Age that the association will take decision at a meeting scheduled for today.
