DOT Desk: The dwellers of the northern district, particularly children and the elderly people, have been suffering for extreme cold weather during the last several days, reports the Daily Observer.
The working people cannot go out for the chilling cold. The homeless people fell in trouble as they are yet to get winter clothes from government or affluent section of the society.
The elderly people and the children have been suffering from cold-related diseases. They are being admitted to the different local hospitals.
After a spot visit at Sadar Hospital, it was found that the children are being admitted to the hospital with cold-related diseases including diarrhoea.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.4 degree Celsius in the district on Saturday. The chilling cold is being felt in the day also. The bone-shaking cold is gripping people from afternoon to next morning.
Meanwhile, cold wave and fog have intensified. The homeless people are helpless for the dense fog and cold wave. The situation becomes unbearable at night.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Abdul Quddus said the children and elderly people have been suffering from cough, pneumonia and diarrhoea. So, the number of cold-related patients are increasing day by day. The doctors advised people to be careful.
The met office sources said if the temperature remains between 6 and 8 degree Celsius then it is a medium cold. If it is 4 to 6 degree Celsius, then it is severe cold. When it is 8 to 10 degree Celsius, it is called mild cold.
The temperature of the district has been fluctuating from 6 to 9 degrees Celsius for last couple of days. On December 29, the lowest temperature was recorded at 6 degree Celsius. It was the lowest temperature of this season in the district.
On December 30, the lowest temperature was recorded 7.1 On 31, 7.5, On Jan 1, 8.5.From Jan 2 to Jan 5 the temperature was fluctuated between 8.2 and 9.4.
District met office source said the temperature came down due to cold wave. On Saturday, the lowest temperature was recorded in Dinajpur at 9.4 degree Celsius and the highest temperature was recorded at 25.8 degree Celsius. The humidity of the air was 76 per cent.
