Demand of re-election has no legal basis

Barrister Shafique Ahmed speaks to DOT :
Jatiya Oikyafront submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission demanding re-election under a neutral government. A seven-member delegation of Oikyafront led by BNP Secretary General handed over the memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner at the Election ommission’s office.
In this regard, Barrister Shafique Ahmed said that there is no provision under the Constitution of Bangladesh or any other laws that support the demand of Jatiya Oikyafront of going for a re-election. If so happens, that would be a violation of law and the Constitution of Bangladesh. Jatiya Oikyafront is coming up with unprecedented demands which are not supported by law of the land.
Barrister Shafique Ahmed is a former Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh.
