BNP approaches EC for scope of fielding alternation candidates

    Sayeed Muhammad of DOT : BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front has demanded the scope of fielding alternative candidates or rescheduling the election to the parliamentary constituencies where the High Court has disqualified candidates on different grounds.
    BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan submitted a letter to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday afternoon in this regard, reports The Daily Star.
    He said the High Court has disqualified at least eight candidates from running the December 30 parliamentary polls. Nazrul is also the election coordinator of the Front
    He said that they urged the Commission to give chance to the party to pick alternative candidates from those who have submitted nomination papers and got the go-ahead from the EC.
    According to him, the court disqualified BNP and the alliance’s candidates aiming to provide walkover to the ruling party candidates in the polls.Earlier in the day, the High Court yesterday rejacted the nomination of eight BNP candidates for not resigning from their posts of upazila chairmen.
    The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing their pleas.The rejected candidates are- Fraidul Kabir Shami for Jamalpur-4, Abdul Muhith Talukder for Bogura-3, Moslem Uddin for Brahmanbaria-4, Asaduzzaman for Rangpur-1, Mahmud Hossain from Mymensingh-8, Abdul Majid for Jhenaidah-2, Fazlur Rahman for Jaipurhat-1 and Abu Syed Chaad for Rajshahi-6.
    Previously the commission has accepted their nominations though they did not step down from their executive posts.
