Making promise is easier than fulfilling them

Barrister Shafique Ahmed speaks to DOT :
BNP unveiled its election manifesto yesterday, putting major emphasis on pledges of freedom of speech and abolishing “black laws” of the country. BNP vowed to scrap all black laws including the Digital Security Act, Official Secrets Act and Special Power Acts to facilitate freedom of speech and expression. It said it will not gag dissenting voice and will lift restrictions on social media to let people speak freely and will ensure unhindered criticism of political leaders and the activities. And it will remove all barriers to freedom of information by amending the Right to Information Act.
In this regard, Barrister Shafique Ahmed said that making these pledges is easier than actually fulfilling these commitments. BNP is trying to make these big pledges to touch people’s sentiment for vote in the upcoming election without properly identifying if there is actually any black law in the country. If BNP comes to power, it shall have to prove and explain to people what it meant by its pledges. For gaining popularity, the tendency of making fake pledges should be prohibited by all the political parties.
