No bigger concern for AL as JaPa aspirants did not withdraw candidacies

Mohiuddin Ahmad speaks to DOT :
Jatiya Party (JaPa) is fielding its own candidates in 132 constituencies, even after negotiations with the Awami League-led Grand Alliance over seat-sharing. Initially it was thought to be a election tactic. The decision was taken in apprehension of BNP’s quitting the race at the last minute. Now it has become clear that BNP is not quitting the race and the party has spontaneously entered the electoral fray.
Speculation is rife that the JaPa Chairman and the immediate past Secretary General have resorted to corrupt practices over nominating candidates. The JaPa aspirants have invested a lot of money and that’s why they are not withdrawing their candidacies. To avoid further trouble, the JaPa Chairman replaced his Secretary General and went to Singapore.
I think this will not cause any trouble. I think many of the candidates will withdraw their candidacies within one or two weeks for the Grand Alliance candidates and conduct electoral campaign in favour of them. In fact, the electoral fray is mainly between AL and BNP and there will be no exception to this reality.
Till now, the country’s political milieu is under control. The previous polls of the country were not much better. It is natural that there will have some isolated incidents. This will lead to a confrontational situation if any quarter hatches conspiracy for thwarting polls.
