234 aspirants file appeals with EC

    A total of 234 aspirants filed appeals with the Election Commission yesterday after returning officers cancelled their nomination papers during scrutinization processes.
    This brings the number to a total of 318 candidates, mostly from opposition parties, who filed their appeals with the commission since Monday, The Daily Star reported, quoting EC sources.
    The aspirants will be able to file the appeal till today. The commission will start hearing on the appeals tomorrow.
    Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said the commission will hear rejection appeals of the candidates ‘in a fair manner’.

    “We will be neutral during hearing the appeals,” Commissioner Talukder told reporters after a meeting with the 14-party alliance this afternoon.

    On Monday, at least 84 appeals were filed with the commission following the rejections of 786 applications.
