Govt to take 80 projects under Delta plan 2100

    BSS: The government has decided to take 80 projects instantly at a cost of Taka 2,97,800 crore under Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100 for implementation within 2030. “In the first phase, the government would implement the 80 projects by identifying six
    ‘hotspot’,” Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain said this, while replying to a starred
    question from treasury bench member M Faridul Haque Khan of Jamalpur-2 in the Jatiya
    Sangsad. He informed the House that 65 projects were infrastructure related and 15 projects were
    organisational capacity building, skilled development and research related out of the total
    80 projects. Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) brought 63.40 lakh hectares areas under
    flood control, drainage system or irrigation facility out of 110 lakh hectares flood free
    and other areas of the country from which water could be drained out by implementing
    projects during 58 years, Hossain said. “Under the project the BWDB constructed 15,616 kilometre embankment along with
    4,750 kilometre embankment in the coastal areas,” he told the House. Besides, the government adopted ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100’ aimed at ensuring water
    and food security, economic progress and sustainable climate, the minister said, adding
    that Chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the National Economic Council (NEC)
    approved the mega plan on September 4, 2018. Hossain said the government has fixed some strategies on challenges and resolve
    problems in the Delta Plan.
