Kabir Humayun: Outgo-ing US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat discussed political and Rohingya issues with Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque with special focus on the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
They talked how the UN Security Council can play a role on Rohingya issue, Bernicat told reporters after the meeting at the foreign secretary’s office here yesterday, Reports UNB.
She said the US focuses on a free, fair, credible electoral process in the country which will express the will of Bangladeshi people.
The government is committed to holding a free, fair, credible and inclusive election, the US diplomat added.
The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73) will open on September 18.
The first day of the high-level General Debate will be on September 25 and is scheduled to last for nine working days.
The theme of the general debate is, ‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.’
