Sabah Mannan: To avoid protesters in central London during Trump’s UK visit on 13th July, British Prime Minister Theresa May will urge the US President to meet her at her country residence instead. Kim Darroch, British ambassador to the United States will the provide details of the plan to the White House.
Upon May’s approval, two proposals will be made to the White House by Darroch – one for a Downing Street visit and the other at Chequers which is the country house of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
At Windsor Castle, a royal residence west of London, Trump will also be asked to have tea with Queen Elizabeth. After months of back-and-forth over when the U.S. president would visit what traditionally has been the United States’ closest ally, Trump will travel to Britain in July for a working visit with May. With several politicians having previously voiced their opposition to Trump being granted a state visit, many Britons have vowed to stage protests if the US President steps in their country.
Earlier in the year, Trump had canceled a trip to London to open a new embassy whereas May was the first international leader to visit him in Washington after his inauguration last year.
