Sofian Khan: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed a High Court (HC) order directing two bus owners to compensate Tk 1 crore to Rajib Hossain’s family, for he was killed in a road accident on March, Asking the HC to form an independent committee to assess the liabilities.
According to the SC, the purpose of the committee will be to submit the assessment report to HC by June 30 upon which it will determine the compensation for Rajib’s family members.
The HC order was stayed by a four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain following his hearing of the two separate petitions filed by Bangladesh Road and Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Sajan Paribahan challenging the HC order.
Rajib was killed on April 17 after getting his right hand stuck between two buses of BRTC and Sajan Paribahan trying to overtake each other in Bangla Motor area on April 3. Following a petition on May 8, the HC ordered the bus authorities to pay Tk 1 crore to Rajib’s family.
