Sayeed Muhammad: Expressing his concern over the poor conviction rate in the cases filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain laid emphasis on finding out the root cause behind the problem.
“Arrange a workshop to find out the cause. If necessary, I will attend the programme,” the chief justice said as he was addressing a view exchange meeting at the Supreme Court Auditorium yesterday.
The Supreme Court and rights group Manusher Jonno Foundation jointly organised the programme, reports The Daily Star.
Talking about the conviction in rape cases, he said necessary medical test reports in this connection are not sent timely, paving ways fir for acquittal of the real culprits.
“There will be no scope for acquittal if the medical test report with strong evidence is placed before a court timely,” Hossain observed.
