A cosmetics startup is using locally harvested herbs to fight skin diseaes. In 2012 with just $10 science teacher Cephas Nshimyumuremyi founded Ubutanga products. He produces five skincare products and engages more than a dozen people. Cephas owns a garden where he grows the medic inal plants and the herbs are first tested on bacteria. However, if the bacteria die or weaken, the herbs are approved for production. The herbs are then dried, pounded into powder and mixed. Finally, they are converted into soap or jelly for the skincare products.Cephas got the idea for the cosmetics company while teaching. He wanted to use local medicinal plants used by some traditional healers but in a scientific way he started contacting special botanists and reading books. Finally, he found some specific plants that could kill bacteria. -Source: AJ+
