Finally, the judicial & institutional structure for the Fecal Sludge Management’s (FSM) processes, had been officially published. A ceremony was held at Health Engineering Department (HED), for its announcement. It is milestone for Bangladesh for the consec utive stability in the sanitation sector, claimed local government division’s additional secretary Nasrin Akter. The guidelines & instructions in this provision, are foremost for municipals & city corporations. FSM mistakes were critically analyzed & solved over the years. But, another national survey will be conducted soon. BUET Prof. Muzibur Rahman said, a national policy is mandatory in the sanitation sector. 31 septic-tank cleaners have died in 2015 alone. Authorities should work on increasing the public awareness.
Meantime, local government division’s joint-secretary Abdur Rauf claimed the deaths to be, accidents from naïve & stubborn actions. Tanks should not be cleaned manually, he said. These few negative events are dimming down acclamation of the progress-achievements Bangladesh earned over the last decade.
