DU Tea-Student Parliament Leaders have organized a rally in front of Press Club, yester afternoon. Demanding for including the people of Sylhet tea-hill areas as Ethnic Minorities. Their President Shawpan Naidu, General Editor Shuresh Koiri and many others were present.
Their representatives argued that, 15 lacs people of Sylhet tea-hill areas had ancestries for over 180 years in those lands. They had been specifically involved in tea harvesting and worked as laborers generations after generations. Though, they live on that piece of Bangladeshi lands and counted as Bangladeshi citizens. They had been underrated for too long despite of their national contribution. They still do not get equal rights & privileges. Hence, they should have special quotas at public educational institutions & job sectors.
