European buyers’ alliance Accord again showing workplace safety-concern about the garments workers in Bangladesh. Regarding the recent boiler-explosion incident at Maultifab Industry, on 3 July. Even, international labor organization IndustriALL Bangladesh Council (ICB) are demanding for taking any possible measures to avoid any further labor deaths.
Accord wants take over boiler security inspection as well in the next Accord-2 session. Accord already has control over the structural & electrical inspection. But Bangladesh Industry Labor Federation President Babul Akhtar urging to focus on strengthening local inspection department for improving related security measures.
Though, local business owners are taking these as nothing but foreign interference and nuisance in their good works. Government is enough, no foreign security services are needed in the garments sector, said BGMEA Senior President Faruq Hasan. Government will understand local issues better than a foreign organization. He also claims that, boilers are currently safe in garments sector.
