Brave Software, a Browser maker, wants to get rid of the worst parts of online ads on the Web, but the biggest newspapers of USA have
considered this an ‘illegal’ plan and instigated an attack against it.
Lawyers from Washington post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and other members of the Newspaper Association of America published a threatening letter last Thursday about San Francisco-based startup whose browser can replace or block advertisements on their webpages.
The letter said, “Your plan to use our content to sell your advertising is indistinguishable from a plan to steal our content to publish on your own website.”, accusing Brave of ‘republication’ that violates trademark and copyright laws and websites’ terms of use.
In response, Brave Chief executive Brendan Eich said that the newspapers have misunderstood Brave and browsers overall.
He said, “Contrary to the misstatements of the NAA letter, Brave is the solution, not the problem, for users and publishers.”
