Men’s fashion trends at present day appear to be dictated by long mane-like outgrowing beard. The beard brings a certain kind of edgy and rusty look that appeals everyone. The cultural impact of this growing trend is also clearly visible. From pro wrestler Daniel Bryan to Marvel’s Avengers’ star Chris Evans to Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage all has been sporting the scruffy facial carpet. But there is more to this than what meets the eye. The beard does not only change your façade entirely but also has several hidden benefits as well.
Traps all those allergens!
Your nose hair traps a lot of allergens in the air you breathe. Just like that, your beard works as a filtration system as well. It blocks and filters pollutants and allergens that try to find its way to your nostrils. So the longer your beard, the healthier you stay. This fact has been supported by Clifford W. Bassett, M.D., Allergy and Asthma Care of NY medical director. Just make sure to keep your beard clean!
Skin cancer is less probable
According to a recent research in the University of Southern Queensland, your beard is capable of blocking 95% of the UV rays from the sun. It is important to keep the sun out of your face, as UV radiation is one of the causes of skin cancer. So the thicker your beard, more protection you get against skin cancer. Who knew your fuzz would become shield against skin cancer?
Helps you stay young!
Yes, you read that right. It is paradoxical that your beard helps you stay young whereas it makes you look old. Maintaining a beard is a natural way of slowing the signs of aging due to less sun exposure. Do not get the wrong idea though, it cannot make you immortal. Just allows you to remain young a little longer.
Goodbye to blemishes
The lessened use of razors not only reduces your blemishes but also prevents them. Razor rash and acne are caused by shaving. In addition, razors are known for spreading bacteria.
Feeling attractive?
Braun, a consumer-goods company based in Germany, asked men in New York about how they feel regarding their facial hair. More than half of them said they feel more attractive and appealing when they sport a beard. Also about 40% of the surveyed men had added that their beard makes them feel more confident about themselves.
Not shaving clears up your schedule
According to a study in Boston University an average man spends about 3350 hours (about 5 months) of his life shaving. Imagine all the time you can save by not shaving. Beard helps you make your schedule more flexible and allows you to have more time to do more important things.
