Gas users will be paying 900 taka for single and 950 taka for double stoves, effectively from June. The prices had been increased in two steps from February at the decision of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). Court dictated the BERC’s decision to be in effect, last Monday.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s bench announced the court’s verdict. But, High Court’s condition & final rules regarding this verdict have to be sorted by 31 July. Bench of Judge Jitan Aarar’s bench will be taking hearings.
This price-increase was at halt due to writ-application by BERC regarding hearings, since 28 February. Later, its hearing was taken again on 30 May. Finally, it was passed to appeal division’s regular bench until verdict, on 5 June.
