Bangladesh’s next parliamentary election is tomorrow and before that we must look back & acknowledge that Bangladesh economy has transformed from a low income least developed status to a lower middle income status. On December 12, 2008 our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented us “the charter of change” – the election manifesto of Awami League which later became the unanimously accepted charter in the ninth parliamentary election. In that election, Awami League won the majority seats. Bangladesh was gifted with a new vision – Vision 2021, transforming Bangladesh into a middle-income country. Bangladesh now looks forward to becoming a developed nation by 2041. Our PM led the country to witness the economy growing at a record pace. Under the prudent leadership of our PM, the national GDP rose to 7.01 – the per capita income soared to USD 1466 – poverty dropped by its half to 22.04% – 10 million jobless were employed. PM recently has been reported to have said that none will be able to suppress Bangladesh. She further said that Bangladesh is advancing and will move ahead further. This government’s policies have turned around 20 million lives. The United Nations General Assembly has adopted our PM’s six-point resolution on poverty. This government’s contribution in expanding information technology, ensuring healthcare to grassroots level, improvement of society’s distress people through safety net programme and success in poverty alleviation, she has been honored with ‘South South Cooperation Visionary’ Award of United Nations. Bangladesh’s economy is headed for a 10% annual growth and has the potential to become Asia’s fastest growing economy.
PM said that the projected growth of this fiscal year is 8.25%, and that such growth would persist. “If elected, I can assure you that the program we have undertaken will get us up to 10% by 2021,” she said.
Now, Bangladesh has the potential to become Asia’s fastest growing economy with the implementation of a range of policies.
Being a representative of youth and a legal professional, I think it is our turn to choose the right representative for Bangladesh in the upcoming election who would be able to fulfill our dream to have a prosperous Bangladesh. Political analysts say that young voters will play a deciding role in this election if they vote. Hence, I urge the young generation of my country to think and decide freely and choose the representative in the 11th parliamentary election for a better Bangladesh.
