Police have revealed that a man in Chandpur’s Sadar Upazila has committed suicide after killing his wife and two children.
The incident occurred in the Debpur area in the early hours of yesterday allegedly over a family dispute, BDnews quoted Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station OC Md Nasim Uddin as saying.
The four
members of the family have been identified as Mainuddin, 26, his wife Fatema, 24, and their two children Mithila, 5, and Piam, 1.
“Mainuddin and Fatema began arguing very early,” the OC said, citing neighbors.
“Mainuddin drowned his wife in a nearby pond.”
“He then strangled the two children as they slept. He committed suicide by hanging himself.”
According to locals, Mainuddin worked at a Chattogram bakery and had returned home on Sunday. He and his wife often argued.
“On Sunday afternoon Mainuddin hired some people to clean the family graveyard,” Rampur Union Parishad Chairman Al Mamun Patwari told reporters. “We had no idea something like this would happen.”
“A police team has been dispatched to the scene,” OC Md Nasim Uddin said. “They are investigating the matter.”
