Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has ordered the shutdown of 54 web portals scrapping four news websites.
“All International Internet Gateways (IIGs) has been instructed to block the 54 websites on the allegation of spreading rumors,” BTRC spokesperson Zakir Hossain told Bangla Tribune yesterday.
According to Hossain, a BTRC assistant director, the instruction was issued on Monday night.
The regulatory authority’s order also dropped four news portals from its block list: Poriborton.com, Priyo.com, Risingbd.com, and Dhakatimes24.com.
The sources at IIGs claimed that access to all 54 websites has been blocked since receiving the instruction.
On Sunday, the BTRC ordered the shutdown of 58 websites including the four news portals, which it revoked later.
