Bangladesh ace all-rounder’s injury to his left little finger, which rendered him unable to even grip a bat and forced him to leave the Asia Cup tournament and return to Dhaka, needed immediate surgery and the cricketer was forced to go under the doctors knife at Apollo hospital yesterday.
“The injured hand got infected and there was no time to go anywhere else. I had to undergo this small surgery within two or three hours upon my return and there was no time to go anywhere else,” Shakib told The Daily Star.
“There was pus and the surgery was done to get the pus out. If the pus was not extracted within the next few hours maybe my hand would have been completely spoiled. Right now there was no visa for Singapore and Thailand that I would be able to go so I underwent the surgery here.
“60-70 mg of pus were extracted and the doctor was mad, saying “how can someone play cricket with this hand, didn’t know any work was possible let alone cricket”,” Shakib informed.
“So this is my condition right now. I am in Apollo right now and my departure date will be pushed back since my anti biotic course isn’t complete yet and it would take atleast three days,” he concluded.
