Arafat Hasan: World Eco-nomic Forum (WEF) President Borge Brende has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the next WEF annual meeting to be held in Davos, Switzerland in January 2019.
Brende extended the invitation during a courtesy call on the premier while she was staying in a hotel in New York on Tuesday afternoon.
After the meeting, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque briefed reporters.
The WEF president informed the premier that some 100 heads of government or state as well as big investors usually join the annual event. “So, Bangladesh can gear up its investment and development activities by participating in the meeting,” Brende said.
Sheikh Hasina also a had meeting with Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
Queen Maxima, also a special representative of the UN Secretary General on Social Inclusion, congratulated Premier Hasina saying that Bangladesh has done better than many countries in the financial inclusion index.
Queen Maxima assured of continuously working with Bangladesh in this regard.
LGRD Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Ministry Dr Dipu Moni, PM’s Principal Secretary Md Najibur Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.
