Meet the wealthy, private couple behind Washington’s most original museum

NDTV: Back in 2006, as Glenstone, a private art museum in the Maryland suburbs of the District of Columbia, was preparing to open its first exhibition hall, curator Emily Wei went to Mitchell Rales, her billionaire boyfriend and the guy footing the bill, with a proposal: She wanted him to actually explain his vision for the museum to the press.
“He’s like, ‘You don’t understand, do you? I haven’t given an interview since 1984. I’m not going to start now,’ ” Emily, now 42, recalls. “So we had this fight because we didn’t know each other that well.”

“It wasn’t really a fight,” says Mitch, now 62.

“It was a disagreement,” says Emily. “He was irritated by my suggestion, so I was like, ‘Okay, fine, I’m glad we had that discussion.’ “
