Diarrhea in Thakurgaon: 5 villages affected, 1 dead

Thakurgaon Correspondent: At least five villages in Thakurgaon have reported to be suffering from an outbreak of diarrhea and cholera. One death has already been reported in the meantime. According to villagers, unplanned poultry farms spreading diseases are to be blamed for the recent outbreak. Doulatpur, Kumillahari, Dhanipara, as well as five other villages in Jagannath union in the sadar upazilla have reported outbreak of disease. Villagers have alleged that the problem began after a private poultry farm under North Eggs Limited was built. Contaminated water, irresponsible dumping of waste products, as well as the horrible smell of chicken feces have forced villagers to leave their homes while the consequent spread of flies and other pests have led to food poisoning. Thakurgaon District Administrator Md. Akhteruzzaman has promised that villagers’ complaints will be taken into consideration.
