Probe into Hotel Olio ‘militant’ incident at final stage: DMP Commissioner

UNB: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday said the investigation in the case filed over ‘militant attack’ at Hotel Olio International in Panthapath in 2017, is in the final stage.
“A total of 14 militants have been arrested in connection with the case and of them, ten gave confessional statements. The purpose of the militants was to draw attention internationally through carrying out sabotage activities at Dhanmondi Road 32 but police foiled their plan,” he said while speaking at a press conference, held at historic Dhanmondi Road 32 in the city.
On August 15 in 2017, police conducted an anti-militant drive codenamed “August Bite” at the hotel and prevented a possible attack on those marching towards Dhanmondi Road No 32, marking the Mourning Day. A case was filed in that connection on the following day.
Talking about the security, the DMP Commissioner said ‘There is no specific threat but we can’t shrug it off and the law enforcing agencies are alert to tackle such situation.”
