C-section: 7,000 women die during child birth every yr

Desk Report: Caesarian section is one of the vital reasons behind death of around five to seven thousand women during child birth every year in Bangladesh, said a study report.
“About 16 mothers die during child birth in the country every day while the death toll rises to five to seven thousand per year. Caesarian section is one of the vital reasons behind the death of the mothers,” said a statement, reports Daily Sun.
Farzana Ahmed, a gynaecologist in the city’s Impulse Hospital, delivered the report while presenting her key-note speech at a seminar organised by the hospital at its conference room on Sunday.
She said the risk for mothers has been rising day by day as caesarian section is increasing simultaneously.
Zahir Al Amin, managing director (MD) of Impulse Hospital, chaired the seminar titled ‘Pain-free Child Birth’ where the founder of Biswa Sahitya Kendra, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, was present as the chief guest.
At the event, pain-free child birth system was inaugurated. It was introduced for the first time in Bangladesh, claimed the hospital authority.
In her key-note speech, however, Farzana Ahmed admitted that they have no statistics of pain-free delivery in Bangladesh.
Among others, gynaecology specialist a Neaz T Parveen, anaeasthesia specialists Mahmudur Rahman, Khanadaker Laizu and Dabir Ahmed spoke at the seminar.
While speaking at the seminar, experts said the rate of child birth in caesarian section has been increased around five per cent in last one decade while there was no necessity for 25 per cent women to be mothers in that way.
They said that giving child birth in caesarian section have been increasing in absence of proper guideline and monitoring in the country.
While addressing, Abdullah Abu Sayeed underlined that motherhood has become a money spinning process through Caesar in Bangladesh while pain-free delivery is now going on in different countries of the world.
He said the government has to take a decision considering the matter in a bid to reduce death of mothers during child birth.
Niaz T Parvin said: “Impulse Hospital has introduced the method of delivery of pain-free childbirth which will encourage many mothers for normal delivery.”
