BNP is set to stage processions and rallies nationwide on Wednesday to protest against the increase in power and gas tariffs, and holding tax of the city corporations and municipalities. The demonstrations are also meant for the growing price hike of rice, pulse, onions and other daily necessities. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General announced the programmes at an emergency press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Monday. He said that all their district and city units except the Rangpur city one, will hold either rallies or take out processions while convenient time on Wednesday. He on the police arrests of their Dhaka city south unit leader and ex-Dhaka city corporation ward commissioner Altaf Hossain and Jubo Dal leader Jahurul Islam Sabuj in the morning as part of the government’s repressive acts said“I, on behalf of BNP, strongly protest and condemn the arrest and demand their immediate release.”
