The European Union has shredded lights on the importance of a free, fair and inclusive election maintaining international standards for democratic elections for this will contribute to help build Bangladesh as a more prosperous nation.The EU is a political and economic union consists of 28-member states that are located primarily in Europe. They also laid importance on the respect and promotion of human rights and democracy.Besides, they appreciated Bangladesh and urged to continue efforts to protect the rights of the Rohingyas.”The recent situation of the Rohingya community in Myanmar has once again reminded the world that almost 70 years after the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, these rights are still vulnerable to large-scale persecution and human rights violations due to differences in culture, religion and ethnicity,” said EU in a statement on Saturday.The EU Embassy in Dhaka issued the statement on the occasion of Human rights and democracy.Besides, they appreciated Bangladesh and urged to continue efforts to protect the rights of the Rohingyas. “The recent situation of the Rohingya community in Myanmar has once again reminded the world that almost 70 years after the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, these rights are still vulnerable to large-scale persecution and human rights violations due to differences in culture, religion and ethnicity,” said EU in a statement on Saturday.The EU Embassy in Dhaka issued the statement on the occasion of Human Rights Day that falls on Sunday, December 10 – reported The Daily Star.”It is crucial for stability, economic growth and development that Bangladesh promotes and protects the human rights of all, regardless of ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious or political affiliation, disability or socio-economic background,” said the EU in their statement.Human dignity, democracy, freedom, equality, the rule of respect and law for human rights are core values embedded in the European Union treaties and working of the European Union.A cooperation agreement was signed between Bangladesh and EU in 2001, both parties agreed to uphold the importance of attaching to the principles of human rights in the UN Conventions.
