An underwater tunnel in planned to be built through under the Buriganga River to ease the struggle of commuters on each side of the river, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said on Wednesday.The minister also directed the BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) to take necessary steps regarding the matter in a meeting with the BIWTA officials at the terminal Bhaban of Sadarghat Wednesday morning.“A new modern launch terminal will be built at Shasanghat near Postagola and for the terminal a 2.5 kilometer road from Sadarghat to Shasanghat financed by BIWTA is under-construction,” said the minister.After implementing the terminal, commuter’s sufferings will be minimized significantly, hoped the minister. “The splendor of Sadarghat terminal has returned due to the effective steps of Shipping Ministry and BIWTA. The launch terminal has been made hawker-free,” he said, adding the number of terminal building, pontoons and parking yard and were extended to ensure passenger satisfaction.
