Supreme Court asks Shawkat to pay back 5 crores

    On monday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court directed Shawkat Chowdhury, the Jatiya Party lawmaker to pay back the 5 crore taka to Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd within 60 days as his connection with two loan scam cases involving Tk 94 crore was found.A five-member bench formed by the Appellate Division under the supervision of Abdul Wahhab Miah, the Acting Chief Justice passed the order. If he fails to pay the 60 crores within 60 days of receiving the order, his bail shall be cancelled, lawyer of Anti-Corruption Commission Khurshid Alam Khan.On October 22, HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim directed Shawkat to pay 25 crore taka to BCBL within 50 days. On 2016’s 8 and 10 may, the Anti Corruption Commission filed two cases with the Bangshal Police Station against MP Shawkat Chowdhury, Md Asaduzzaman, Managing Director of BCBL and eight others.
