Morocco’s blue city goes green

    Morocco’s famous blue city is going green. Chefchaouen is a popular tourist spot and city officials have started to make city more environmentally friendly. Mayor of Chefchaouen Mohamed Sefani said, “I can say that Chefchaouen has a desire to become an ecological city. We are still in a transition phase.”He also said that Moroccan and African levels and they are among the most advanced towns in this respect.In 2010, the city council voted unanimously to transform Chefchaouen onto an ecologically sustainable town with solar, wind farms, electric buses and a ban on plastic bags. Morocco has been forging ahead with environmentally friendly policies over the past few years. Effectively, Morocco has no oil or gas of its own and aims to increase the use of renewable energies to 52% by 2030.
