Rubya Tripty: In the recently concluded SAARC Film Festival in Colombo Bangladeshi film ‘Oggatonama’ , written and directed by Tauquir Ahmed, won the award for best screenplay.
Ahmed told after receiving the award, ‘Film from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan were screened in the festival and I am honored and glad to have the prize in such a stiff competition.’
The film ‘Oggatonama’ dealt with an upsetting issue about Bangladeshi workers who migrated to the middle east and other countries and doing petty jobs. According to the director, he successfully ‘connected’ with the audience through his film. In the film, how the workers get abused and exploited sexually was brought up by the director. Some people were ‘in tears’ during screenplay. ‘Oggatonama’ is the story of an unidentified body of a worker which arrives in a Bangladeshi village from another country. The story revolved around a human trafficker and a policeman who both got entangled with the dead body.
